Loving in the Face of Fear
I have been witnessing a lot of synchronicities recently and they brought to mind the sculptural coffee table that I created in 2021, titled Synchronicity.
A synchronicity is a deeply meaningful coincidence, like thinking about something, then mysteriously having it happen. I feel they are like magical signs from the cosmos, and I always appreciate experiencing them.
The interlocking patterns of the sculpture were inspired by the structure of coral reef ecosystems and their resemblance to the architecture of a city. The forms are made from oak and quartz crystal, complete with a solid bronze, miniature King Kong character, rejoicing on top of one of them.
Due to my love of synchronicities, the cityscape aesthetic of the piece and my natural tendency for wordplay (the word synchronicity ending with the word city), Synchronicity felt like a fitting title.
However, aside from the title, there was another concept that catalysed the creation of the piece.
There’s a deeper, more elaborate (sci-fi-esque) story to the city portrayed in the sculpture that evolved in my mind during its creation, and I feel that I’d like to share it here.
The other theme revolves around the sculpture’s working title, that I was pondering prior to deciding upon Synchronicity. That initial title was, Loving in the Face of Fear and here’s the backstory of how that title connects to the city depicted in the sculpture:
The citizens of Megalomania City, on the beautiful planet Eh, have long been at the mercy of a self-replicating, corrupt army of tyrants. Greed driven enslavement of the people via brainwashing propaganda, based on the premise of an unnecessary, false fear, has become the norm. The control-based programming of the masses has been slowly evolving over many years, those maintaining control have been easing in the draconian measures so slyly that the people don’t even realise they have lost all forms of freedom of thought and expression.
That is, all but a hidden few, awoken from the slumber, now gratefully growing in numbers, living in the shadows of the oppressive surveillance of the system. – The Awoken Ones work tirelessly to project positivity and radiate love to all, in order to bring about planetary joyous harmony once again.
They utilise the tools of creativity to further inspire others to live for an existence based on mutual respect and unconditional love; rather than greed and fear-driven entrapment in a system with an objective to divide, conquer and control.
The system’s censorship of art forms and creative expression has gone to such a degree that computer codes control who is exposed to what content, programming minds to view and do what’s deemed best for them by the system.
The Awoken Ones aim to add the pure truth of art once again to planet Eh (Eh + art = Earth).
One of their recent technological achievements is the mastering of artificial intelligence. Their current collaborative creative project revolves around that theme and is planned to be unleashed in the not-too-distant future. On that special day The Awoken Ones will release a larger than life, artificially intelligent Cute Kong robot atop the buildings of Megalomania City, with a sole programming objective to ‘be nice and do the right thing’. Their intention through this act of guerrilla art (pun intended) being to represent the transformation of a symbol that has long been perceived as a fear inducing presence, to that of one that stands for the projection of positivity. One that elevates the people to rise above the existing greed-driven system and to wholeheartedly encourage…
… Loving in the Face of Fear!
Synchronicity
(aka Loving in the Face of Fear)
Dimensions: 47cm x 64cm x 42cm
Materials: Oak, Ash, Padauk, Elm, Walnut, Rose Quartz, Garden Quartz, Aura Rose Quartz, Bronze, Toughened Glass, Smart Control System, Colour Changing LEDs.
(One-of-a-kind).
Synchronicity is an interactive sculptural coffee table with an internal smart control system connected to state-of-the-art LEDs that are concealed within the outer frame. This enables interaction via an app, allowing the selection of colours, programming of sequences and an almost infinite variety of lighting effects. The piece can be integrated into smart home systems and has an internal microphone that transforms the sound that is sensed into a synchronised audio-visual display.
